Laser Hair Removal Near Me | So, you have decided to finally break up with that razor! Welcome to the Smooth as Silk, Laser Hair Removal Club. Kidding, that isn’t really a thing. Probably. But really, what’s next? Do you need to prepare for your hair removal treatments? Read on to find out how to get ready!
Avoid tanning and sun exposure.
This step in preparation should start quite a while before your appointment, if possible. Don’t go to the tanning bed and avoid sun exposure for 3-4 weeks before your treatment. If you are going to be outside, wear a minimum of SPF 30 and reapply every 2 hours, (but don’t use SPF products 24 before treatment). Even though our laser has the only industry melanin reader, which makes it more effective for darker skin tones, the sun can cause skin darkening in the area during treatment.
Shave before you come in.
Believe it or not, your hair doesn’t have to be long to have the procedure, unlike waxing. In fact, it shouldn’t be! In order to get the best and most effective treatment, we recommend that you shave 1-2 days before treatment. However, we don’t want you to wax, pluck or thread the area being treated for 3-4 weeks before treatment (or during the treatment period). Sometimes these activities can irritate the hair follicle and make the laser treatment less effective. Shorter, but visible hair may also decrease discomfort during the treatment.
Shower before you come in.
Make sure that when you come in for your appointment, that your skin is clean. To make the laser treatment most effective, the skin should clean, dry and free from lotions, moisturizers, make-up, perfumes, and deodorants. Also, do not use bleaching creams before treatment.
Hydrate before you come in.
Make sure that you drink plenty of water before coming in for your appointments. This is an effective way to reduce discomfort during the procedure. Avoid caffeine, as this can increase skin sensitivity.
What to wear.
We recommend that you wear something loose and comfortable. Not only will this increase your comfort during the procedure, it will help you feel more comfortable afterward. Your skin can feel sensitive, or like a sunburn and be slightly swollen, so loose clothing will not be as irritating.
As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office. We will be happy to discuss your treatment.
