What Causes Foot Pain?

Foot problems occur because your feet are extremely complex structures composed of bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, and skin. They may develop certain disorders (some of which originate in other parts of the body). They are also subject to injuries and other problems caused by normal wear and tear over years of supporting the weight of your body and making it possible for you to stand, walk, run, and jump. The most obvious symptoms of foot trouble are pain and dysfunction (limping, favoring one foot or the other, inability to put weight on the heel and/or the toes).

Foot pain can be due to ill-fitting, inappropriate footwear that cramps your feet; injuries that keep you from walking well–or at all; sprains which stretch or tear ligaments (which connect bones); and stress fractures of bones in the foot, which can result from accidents or overuse while engaging in sports or exercise. Just as foot disorders may originate elsewhere in the body, problems experienced in the feet can cause difficulties in other parts of the body.

Structural Chiropractic

One of the most effective therapies we use, structural chiropractic is a branch of chiropractic that focuses on the correction of your spine back to within normal range. There are normal ranges for every function in our body, and flexibility and range of motion is no exception.

Treatment

Chiropractic treatment has long been the leading natural and non-invasive approach to treating chronic spinal pain conditions. The field of chiropractic medicine continues to progress and our clinic specializes in using the best combination of chiropractic care with spinal rehabilitative exercises for pain management and pain relief.

Our chiropractic services work by relieving the tension or inflammation to the delicate nerves of the spine. This irritation to spinal nerves is the chief cause of spinal pain.

Improve Mobility

Chiropractic adjustments directly affect musculoskeletal structures by reducing pain and increasing joint motion. Musculoskeletal structures include ligaments, muscles, joints, joint capsules, and the surround muscle tissues. By having proper mobility in the joints, the pressure to a spinal nerve causing pain will diminish and resolve.

Health Benefits of Chiropractic Care

When chiropractic adjustments are given to relieve the pressure placed on the nerves of the spine, relief is noticed almost instantly. This relationship between the spine and nervous system is the main focus of chiropractic treatment. With Chiropractic care, patients not only respond to spine pain conditions, but also to conditions affecting the entire body as well.

This combination of traditional and natural therapies allows our patients to truly receive the best of both worlds when it comes to healthcare today. By first focusing on relieving the inflamed and injured tissues of the spine and body, and combine it with functional rehabilitation for strengthening the muscles around it, it gives our patients a much faster recovery time and much longer results.

FAQ

What is chiropractic?2019-01-02T00:50:44-05:00

Chiropractic care is the leading noninvasive approach to treating chronic spinal conditions, such as misalignments, injuries, and other musculoskeletal disorders, mainly through their connection to the nervous system.

At Atlantic Coast Physical Medicine, your practitioner uses their hands to manually realign your spine or joints in other parts of your body. Chiropractic care is a drug-free practice which focuses on teaching you therapeutic exercises and stretches so that you can include them in your daily routine.

What happens during a chiropractic appointment?2019-01-03T23:22:24-05:00

During your chiropractic visit at Atlantic Coast Physical Medicine, your practitioner first identifies where your pain is located and discusses your overall well-being and lifestyle.

Your practitioner then assesses the condition of your spine and guides you through a series of exercises to determine your range of motion and pain level. From there, your practitioner can recommend various chiropractic treatments based on your individual needs.

At Atlantic Coast Physical Medicine, the method of choice is structural chiropractic care, which focuses on targeting the root of the misalignment, not necessarily targeting the misalignment itself.

Your practitioner may also perform the Thompson Drop Table technique, which requires an adjusting table with a pneumatically driven drop system. When your practitioner performs an adjustment, the table quickly lowers the section of the body corresponding to the spinal region being adjusted.

Adjustments are quick, specific movements that position your vertebrae into the correct alignment, releasing tension on your muscles and connective tissue.

The team at Atlantic Coast Physical Medicine work collaboratively to understand the complexities of your spinal system. This means that you’ll speak with multiple team members and get various opinions so you can together make the decision that’s the most relevant to your needs.

What are the benefits of chiropractics?2019-01-02T00:52:53-05:00

Chiropractic care is a safe and drug-free treatment. Generally speaking, you’ll start feeling better almost immediately after the adjustment is made — and you’ll probably want to come back for more.
